Born 2-Do-Something-Else (A Cayabs Mixtape Review)
I got a call last Saturday from a good friend of mine, Artie McFly, also known as the Founder/CEO of From The Stands (FTS). Well, he called me because he asked if I wanted to write an article for FTS about Lonzo Ball’s new mixtape, Born 2 Ball, that dropped the night before. So, I guess you can call this a “From The StandsxSheBangsChucks” exclusive. Continue reading
Attention Dub Nation: Calm Down.
The Warriors have been going through a pretty rough month of March and it’s only March 10th.
But don’t worry guys, Papa McFly is here to calm your fears. We’ll be okay. Continue reading
WE BELIEVE IS BAAACK!!
In the wake of the Kevin Durant injury in Washington, the Warriors made a move in the middle of the night to sign ex-Kings/Warriors/Clipper/Grizzlies/Suns forward, Matt Barnes. Now if you don’t know who Matt Barnes is, thanks for being a Dubs fan for the past three years. Continue reading
As The Dust Settles
It’s been about a week and a half since the Sacramento Kings dropped an atomic bomb on the NBA Universe in the form of a DeMarcus Cousins trade that was nearly 7-years in the making. Continue reading
The Truth Hurts
Respect your elders is one common theme we’ve heard all week after Draymond Green responded to Paul Pierce by telling him he isn’t loved enough for a farewell tour. Harsh words came after The Truth told him he couldn’t guard Blake Griffin. Continue reading
Don’t Worry ‘Bout Curry
With the growing emergence of Kevin Durant, everybody and their grandmothers are thinking that the the team has shifted from Stephen Curry’s team to Kevin Durant’s team.
Here’s the deal: it’s Steve Kerr’s team.
Well, maybe more like Draymond Green’s team, but the real point is, Stephen Curry is as happy as he ever was. Continue reading
Who’s the Biggest Villain for the Warriors?
The Golden State Warriors have been seen as the “team-to-beat” in the NBA since the acquisition of the “Slim Reaper” Kevin Durant, so naturally, as a loyal member of the Dub Nation, I’m looking for the villain of the “Super Villains”. Continue reading
Oh Sh*t, We Have Durant
It’s taken some time to process, but I think I’m ready to talk about the newest acquisition to the Golden State Warriors, Kevin “The Slim Reaper” Durant.
The narrative on Durant is that he’s weak for leaving OKC for the team that knocked him from going to the 2016 NBA Finals.
First off, if any athlete can write a very intelligible, eloquent farewell letter and be one of the greatest pure scoring forwards in the league, that dude is not weak, he’s borderline inhuman. That letter to OKC was beautiful like Shakespeare and I had to look-up some of the words that KD used.
Here’s the thing… No superstar worth talking about is “ring-less”. Charles Barkley, John Stockton, Karl Malone, sh*t Dan Marino — none of these superstars are in the same conversation as their ring-bearing counterparts. KD had to consider that he is potentially one of the best forwards in the history of the NBA and will forever be a “what-if” if his fingers stay naked.
And here is your response to him going to the team that knocked him off.
Prior to hearing the relationship between Steph, Iggy and KD, I was very skeptical about Durant coming to Oracle due to the history of the rivalry and potential superstar friction. But where else would Durant go? The options consisted of Golden State, San Antonio, Boston, Miami and the best financial option, Oklahoma City. Within all these options the top two had to be Golden State and Oklahoma City. If money isn’t an issue, then what’s left is choosing between either Curry or Westbrook? Yeah… you tell me what you would’ve picked. Skinny Jeans and a T-Shirt (Curry) or Celtic skirt/ wearing half-a-T-Shirt/ fifteen-different colors on/ with women’s sneakers (Westbrook)?
Let me say it now, I was a part of the group that did not want KD to come to Oakland. I thought the move would be bad for the team chemistry that Steve Kerr had developed. However, when news got out that our core was trying to leave — Bogut with organizational issues, Barnes/Ezeli looking for a payout, and basically the rest of the bench being unrestricted free agents — I figured if we’re going to lose people, why not get someone else?
So now, the Warriors have obtained Kevin Durant but have lost half the team due to free agency. Barnes and Bogut head to Dallas, Rush goes to Minnesota, Barbosa goes back to Phoenix, Ezeli goes to Portland and Speights shocks everyone with his choice of the Los Angeles Clippers. People are saying that we “lost” too much to get Durant, but we were going to lose these guys either way. We didn’t push anyone away to sign Durant, we saw that we’re going to lose a bunch of young guys who we don’t want to overpay for.
The Warriors are going to look like a completely different team next year. So, will we be the dominating team that we’re supposed to be? Or will we bust even more so than last year’s finals? My guess is we’re going to be a pretty scary force throughout the whole year even with potential injuries. The offensive power that we now have mixed with the excellent coaching of Steve Kerr & Co. will be pretty hard for any team to manage.
The idea that we have too many superstars is just ridiculous. We didn’t pick up Kobe Bryant to come play with Shaquille O’Neal and James Harden. We got a very team-oriented Kevin Durant to play with the most fluid team in the league. Kevin Durant backed-up Russell Westbrook for Christ’s sake, I’m sure he’ll mesh well with a team who doesn’t stir up problems in the media but is universally-liked in all major markets. Durant will now have arguably one of the best young coaches in the league who allows his key players to lead alongside him. Sounds like a good place to be if you want to not only win a championship, but enjoy doing so.
The bottom line is Kevin Durant saw an opportunity to not only improve his chances of winning a championship but also saw a family that he would be proud to be a part of. The fans in the Bay Area are like no other. We have the best fans in the world and everyone knows it.
Golden State is now a destination and us Dubs fans might have to get used to finally being the favorites in the league for years to come. Go Dubs. Go Slim Reaper. We’re going to be the nicest, most sweetest, kindest bullies of the NBA and us here at FTS love it.
McFly out.
The Day After Game 7 of the NBA Finals
Please regard the following: this is not going to be an article for the kids. Realize that I am going to write from my very hurt heart, realize that the following will be the true reaction from a true fan and will probably only make sense to some…
LeBron James vs. Draymond Green
With Game-6 just hours away, all eyes are going to be on the re-connection between two Goliaths: Draymond Green & LeBron James.
Let’s recap why this is a big deal. In Game-3 of the NBA Finals, Green sets up to screen James for Stephen Curry at the top of the perimeter. This move causes James and Green to get tangled up and eventually Green goes down. As Green is down the play continues and James decides that instead of walking around the fallen Green, he steps over him. Green (with LBJ on top of him) frustratingly swings as he stands up, connecting with LeBron’s “LBJs”. This creates a scuffle between the two players, ridicules were exchanged and both teams calmed down their superstars. Warriors win Game-4.
After the game, James takes to the media. James tells the reporters that Draymond went “a little overboard”. Speculation states that Green called James a “b*tch” — seems pretty likely. NBA reviews it, Green gets suspended for Game-5 due to previous flagrant calls. Warriors lose Game-5, obviously due to a lack of toughness, and now we wait for Game-6.
Okay, caught up now.
First off, LeBron, you are indeed a b*tch. You’re a 6’8″, 250 lbs Small Forward with a mind of that 14-year-old spoiled AAU kid who was told by his parents that he’s the best player in the world. No one likes that kid, the only reason that kid has friends is because he always has the nice hoopin’ shoes and his mom always brought the good snacks. You clearly manipulated the situation to force Green into an instinctive decision to either take your b*tch move of stepping over him, or swinging at you. You were scared that you might lose yet another NBA Finals, so you decided to go for the only weakness the Warriors had going into the series, the NBA rules working against Green. You couldn’t just win fairly, you had to abuse your stardom power to force the NBA to review the play and get a suspension to the only player that could get physical with your big-for-nothing-ass.
Dude, LeBron… you’re a b*tch. You did what “b*tches” do. You copped out on competition. You couldn’t handle someone getting physical with you so you tried to get them in trouble. That’s what b*tches do. Green was just observing your actions.
And he wasn’t the only one. Go back to the video of the incident. Fast-forward to (0:31) and listen to that glorious fan in Cleveland. I would go to say she was observing what Green was observing.
Point is, LeBron you only delayed the inevitable. Yes, you pushed to a Game-6, but you still do not have the tools to beat the Warriors. Kyrie Irving has been phenomenal the past two-games, but is he really gonna give you a hat trick? And even with the absence of Bogut, due to a sprained knee, are you really going to stop both Splash Bros with a pissed off Splash Cousin? Draymond now has not only created a passionate-reason to beat you, but now he’s watched his brothers lose to you because he wasn’t able to help.
You’ve now pissed off the pissed. Green is going to come back with a vengeance and it’s going to be a helluva show. I predict that Green goes for something around a line of 18–12–8. Stats don’t show just how effective Green plays because it doesn’t show how Green punks LeBron right back to his b*tch-made house in Cleveland. Keep the champagne on ice.
Game-6 goes to Cleveland where the Warriors won a Game-6 before and will more than likely do again. We haven’t seen a Game-7 in three years, and we won’t see one this year either.
